Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those affecting the spine. Chiropractors are known for spinal adjustments and can use a range of treatments to help the body’s neuro musculoskeletal system (joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves) aiming to alleviate pain and improve function without surgery or medication.
No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners. This means we are trained to diagnose and determine whether Chiropractic is the right place and suitable treatment for you. So there is no need for you to see your GP before undergoing Chiropractic care.
The treatment times vary depending upon what issues are being addressed and the practitioner you are with. It’s best to ask the Chiropractor who’s treating you to give you the best idea of this. Generally our Chiropractic sessions range anywhere from 10 to 20 mins, with the initial visits being longer as they include an examination, and consultation.
Your first visit will entail a comprehensive consultation where we will go through your medical history and discuss the main reasons you’ve come in and any goals you may have. Important information will be asked by your Chiropractor and noted. A focused and full examination will then be conducted and if suitable your Chiropractor will begin treatment.
Your Chiropractor will need to assess you and go through a realistic plan and give you an idea and time frame of recovery. Factors such as the severity of your issue, the length of time you’ve had this problem, your age and your health will most likely have a bearing on this.
Yes, you don’t necessarily need to be in pain to see a Chiropractor. Chiropractic is about getting your body working as it should and to your best. You may not realise if you have any imbalances, this can be assessed during an examination. These imbalances, and weaknesses can put you at risk of an injury in the future or you not performing to your optimum.
If you’ve completed your initial care plan with your Chiropractor and achieved your desired goals, the Chiropractor can then advise the best way to keep things in check and prevent reoccurrence which may include an extended plan for periodic spinal adjustments.
During manual Chiropractic adjustments, you may hear a slight popping sound. This is typically harmless and is not a sign of anything breaking or being damaged and is actually just gas bubbles being released in the joint fluid due to a pressure change. However, if this is something you wouldn’t like, then rest assured there are other techniques that can be used which don’t involve these popping/cracking noises.
You don’t need to wear any specific clothing but we recommend you wear something loose fitting. We also have gowns available if required.
You don’t need to bring anything specifically, however it is recommend you bring any relevant medical notes, scans and medication lists you have at the time of your first appointment.
Chiropractic treatment shouldn’t be painful. Some discomfort or soreness may occur after your first visit, especially if your body isn’t used to the adjustments. This will be explained to you by your Chiropractor. More gentle techniques can be used by your Chiropractor if preferred, it’s essential to communicate with your Chiropractor about any discomfort you experience during the treatment so they can adjust their approach accordingly. Most people find the treatments to be relieving and beneficial in the long run.
